Teen Daughter Comes Home To Murder-Suicide Scene

"My heart goes out this family," said New Port Richey Police Chief James Steffens.

Update (12:48 p.m., Feb. 12): Police have identified the suspect in Monday's apparent murder -suicide as Rex Shelton, 57. He lived at 8634 Spanish Moss Dr. Port Richey, with the ex-husband of Tina Diane Lane, the woman who died in the incident. He has been described as a close family friend of Lane and her ex-husband. Police say he attacked Lane in her bedroom at the Maplewood Drive home in the late morning or early afternoon. Police have said she died "as a result of homicidal violence characterized as blunt force trauma." Authorities say she was defenseless "She suffered traumatic upper body injuries and died in the bedroom," Police Chief James Steffens said in e-mail. Woman Found Floating in Gulf Harbors Canal Identified

Vickie Petrakis was found in a canal in the Forecastle Drive area.

Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies have identified the body found floating in  a canal around 5003 Forecastle Drive as 76-year-old Vickie Petrakis, of 2624 Tottenham Drive. Petrakis’ husband discovered the body Monday morning, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary investigation shows that a friend had called the husband and told him the couples’ vehicle was parked in the Forecastle Drive area. After he arrived, he searched the area and found the wife’s body floating in the canal.   The husband discovered the body at 11:40 a.m., and Pasco Fire Rescue pronounced Petrakis decesed at 11:52 p.m. The Sheriff’s Office has opened a death investigation. At this time, there is no foul play suspected.

There are no obvious signs of foul play at this time.
