Romney Gets Majority of Pasco's Votes

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has carried Pasco County.

The results are in and Pasco County has named its choice for the White House. Former Gov. Mitt Romney has taken the county with 52.5 percent of the vote. A total of 110,563 ballots were cast in Romney’s favor within Pasco County. Democratic President Barack Obama came in second with 96,360 ballots cast in his favor, which works out to 45.81 percent, according to the Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Office. While Romney won’t gain any precious electoral votes from Pasco County alone, he can say he carried the county. The county has traditionally voted Republican in presidential races. In 2008, Pasco voters favored Republican challenger John McCain, giving him 51.07 percent, or 110,104 of the votes cast. Obama garnered 102,417 or 47.51 …

Young Voter Tired of 2-Party System

Charles Weis voted for the Green Party candidate for president.

This is the first year 18-year-old Charles Weis was able to legally vote for president. His mother dropped him off at the Finnish-American Club in New Port Richey Tuesday morning and snapped his photo at the  “Vote here" sign.   Then, Weis walked inside the precinct 60 polling place and cast a ballot. Did he vote for Democrat Barack Obama to keep his job as president? Or did he cast a ballot for Republican contender Mitt Romney? The answer is: Neither.      Weis said he cast his vote for Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate for president. “I’m tired of the two-party system,” he said. “I don’t believe in voting for the lesser of two evils.” He also likes Stein’s emphasis on climate change. Weis, a part-time student at Pasco-Hernando …

Keeping the Faith

How presidential candidates deal with questions about their religious beliefs

By New Port Richey resident Joseph Margetanski We're all familiar with this scenario: rumors and speculation abound about the presidential candidate not really being a Christian as he claims, but rather belongs to what some perceive as a dangerous cult that has designs to undermine American sovereignty. But if you think such speculation and fear is something unique to our current president, or this election, think again. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney aren't the first presidential aspirants to face rumors and doubts about their faith. We’ve had two other presidential candidates in our history that faced persistent concerns about their religion. In one case, those fears derailed the dreams of one Oval Office seeker. In the other case, the …

Romney Promises 'Real Change'

Gov. Mitt Romney Romney took the stage to a roar of applause just before 11 a.m. Wednesday in front of a crowd of thousands who waited in a chilly airplane hangar for the presidential candidate’s arrival in Tampa. Wednesday’s Tampa stop is among a trifecta of Florida visits for the presidential candidate who will be …
