Potty training is about 20 different skills, so when are kids potty trained? When they have mastered all these skills? Some of them? One of them?
“So how old were your kids when they were potty trained?” an elderly (are we still allowed to use that adjective?) lady asked me at the grocery store. I can tell by her tone that my mothering will be judged by my answer. “They were both out of diapers at 2,” I say. “Oh wonderful,” she nods approvingly. “Yes, all the kids used to be potty trained by 2, but now everyone does it so late, up to 4 sometimes.” “Four?” I pretend to be appalled. Am I lying to her? Yes and no. Potty training is about 20 different skills: going number one on the potty, going No. 2 on the potty, going without being prompted, stopping playing to go, not going in the bath tub, not going in the pool, using indoor plumbing instead of the grass, pulling up your pants, …

Do sexual and domestic violence issues get diluted or not? This month's task force meeting debates the impact of its new name, which is still up for discussion.
Do not water down the only task force that addresses domestic and sexual violence throughout all of Pasco County. That's my advice to members of the Task Force Formerly Known as the Sexual and Domestic Violence Task Force of Pasco County. (This reminds me of The Artist Formerly Known as Prince who was then doing business as that weird symbol...) The Task Force tentatively voted in late May to drop "domestic and sexual violence" from its common-use name and expand its services in East Pasco. Its new name is "Family and Community Task Force of East Pasco," but Task Force members are continuing to debate the decision. I want the task force's focus to be clear and not clear as mud. I don't want them to drop "domestic and sexual violence" …
