Moon Lake Wildfire Leads to Smoke, Fog Concerns

Pasco officials are warning residents with respiratory conditions to avoid the area of Moon Lake Road and State Road 52 as a wildfire burns itself out. Smoky conditions are anticipated to continue for a few days.

A 150-acre wildfire that broke out Monday, April 8 in the Moon Lake area is mostly contained, but Pasco officials are urging residents with breathing conditions to take precautions anyway. While the fire is 95 percent out, it’s possible smoky, smoldering conditions will continue for the next few days, said Pasco County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Cynthia Holland. She’s particularly concerned about the overnight hours when heavy humidity is likely to cause dense smoke and fog in the area. “Folks with any respiratory problems should avoid going out,” Holland advised. Where and how far the smoke will travel remains unclear, Holland pointed out, saying it depends on how the wind shifts. The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Monday in the area of…
