A focus on fitness is one way Sheriff Chris Nocco says he is 'building up' his agency.
Pasco deputies are throwing their weight around, making big gains—and losses—in the process. The sheriff's office recently launched a new health and fitness initiative for deputies and staff, which benefits both the participants and the public, Sheriff Chris Nocco said. "This is part of how we're building up our agency," Nocco said. "The healthier we are, the more productive we'll be." In May 2012, 500 employees participated in a health risk assessment, which identified four areas of high risk: nutrition, weight, diabetes and exercise. By committing to working out and making better food choices, our deputies and staff become healthier and lead better lives, Nocco said. More than 200 employees are participating in the health and fitness …

Sheriff Chris Nocco says if Pasco residents are happy now, they'll be ecstatic with what they see from the sheriff's office in the future if he's elected.
The No. 1 issue Pasco County faces right now, crime-wise, is drugs. That's according to Sheriff Chris Nocco. “Drugs are fueling all the crime,” he said. "If you really look at all the people that are committing crime in our county, a vast majority are doing it because of their addiction.” And, in addition to the targeted efforts of narcotics detectives and Intelligence Led Policing, the first line of defense in handling the issue as a county is education, Nocco said. That’s why community outreach is so important to Nocco and his staff, he said. Educating the public, especially youth, and partnering with faith-based organizations are vital elements of the department’s efforts to combat the problem. “We’re trying to do as much as we can, …

Gina Dean, one of four Pasco Sheriff's Office advocates, says her job is to empower victims, guiding them from the crime scene to the courtroom.
While deputies work to put together the pieces when a crime is committed, who helps the survivors put their own pieces back together? National Crime Victim’s Week (April 22-28) promotes victims’ rights and honors crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf, according to the Office of Justice Programs website. Among those are Pasco’s own victim advocates. Under the umbrella of the Pasco Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the agency’s four advocates work regular 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. days, then rotate weeklong 24/7 call duty, serving the sheriff’s office as well as the Florida Highway Patrol and the county’s police departments, with the exception of the New Port Richey Police Department, which has its own advocates on staff. With so …

I had to call the sheriff just last night, thought someone was in my home. I can tell you there were cops surrounding my home in 4 minutes time. I think that is surely more than we can ask for. It's often frustrating when nothing can be done because they have laws to abide by, and most times have to witness a crime before they can go and just arrest someone.we have a heck of a lot better …   more ›
