Over the course of five-plus hours Friday, youth bands from all over the Bay area rocked out in the Pasco County Library System’s Rockus Maximus XV Battle of the Bands. Eight bands competed against each other in an evening concert at the Rotary Pavilion at The Concourse in Shady Hills. The first-place winner, MBL Trio, netted $1,000 and 10 hours of recording time at Morrisound Recording Studios in Tampa. The second-place band, South of Holly, won five hours of recording time. Third-place winner, The Northwest, won three hours of recording time. Winners were chosen based on scoring from a panel of youth and adult judges, which included the editors of New Port Richey Patch and Land O' Lakes Patch. The top three winners of Rockus Maximus XV …

The clock is winding down as eight bands prepare to battle it out at Rockus Maximus XV tonight. The Pasco County Library System's 15th annual battle of the bands, featuring young musicians from the Bay area and elsewhere, will kick off at 6 p.m. Up for grabs: $1,000 cash and 10 hours of recording time at Morrisound Recording in Tampa. Meet four of the bands competing in Rockus Maximus XV.
The bands were separated from the crowd by a row of tiny chairs; picture books filled the shelves behind them. The Land O' Lakes library turned up the volume in the the children's section as four of the Rockus Maximus XV competitors performed Friday night. Patrons walking into the library near show time were greeted—and warned. "Are you here for the concert? I'm just making sure all the adults coming in know it's about to get loud in there," I was told. (Confession: I was a little disappointed to be recognized as a grownup.) Open Box Policy opened the show, followed by Braille & Color, Hepburn & The Hooligan and Lights At Night. Rockus Maximus preview gives sample of good jives .
If you went to juvenile section the South Holiday Library Saturday, you would have been audience to live performances of rock, metal and hip-hop. Four bands and one solo act were rocking at a preview performance for Rockus Maximus XV, the Pasco County Library System's Battle of the Bands. In addition, band members competed at the preview in a game of "Library Warrior," in which they were challenged to speed paint while dancing, drink coffee that they were told was brewed from meal worms (although it wasn't really) and other physical and mental challenges.
