Plan Ahead for Super Bowl Chicken Wings

Are chicken wings part of your Super Bowl plan?

Chicken wings are a popular pick for Super Bowl Sunday as football fans watch the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens compete for the Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans on Feb. 3. But will there be a chicken wing shortage for this Super Bowl? Americans eat 1.23 billion chicken wings over Super Bowl weekend, but this year prices have gone up, and fewer chicken wings are available "due in large part to record high corn and feed prices" last summer, according to the National Chicken Council website.  The average cost for a pound frozen chicken wings at the grocery store last week was $2.52, compared to $1.97 per pound during the same time frame last year, according to the Huffington Post. Personally, I'm not a lover of the wings. But I love the sauces and blue cheese, so I order chicken fingers with wing sauce on the side and blue cheese. Love baking it in the oven from scratch so I don't get all that fat. It's just an alternative.   more ›
