Pasco EcoFest Invites Visitors to Go Wild

The multi-day ecotourism focused festival brings visitors to West Pasco parks and attractions.

Pasco EcoFest is returning this year to bring people out to West Pasco parks and other natural attractions. EcoFest is a multi-day festival that puts a spotlight on West Pasco County‘s natural spaces and what you can do in and around them. This will be the second EcoFest. The inaugural festival was held last year. This year’s festival is Nov. 9, 10 and 11 and seeks to draw folks to coastal parks and also inland attractions that are in New Port Richey and the surrounding area. This year’s festival is still taking shape, but among the fun things to be featured are kayaking, bird watching, hiking, and riverboat rides, fishing, horseback riding, drum circles, hooping and dancing on the beach, a food truck rally, eco market, educational …

Active New Port Richey Residents Helm EcoFest

Kira and Kacey Atkinson are two environmentally friendly city residents who are helping the event take shape in its sophomore year.

Sisters Kacey and Kira Atkinson have taken on a big responsibility. The two are overseeing the second-ever Pasco EcoFest, a multi-day festival Nov. 9-11 that puts the spotlight on natural spaces in West Pasco and activities to do in and around them. Kacey and Kira are the managers of the festival this year.   The Atkinson sisters are twins who turn 28 in October. Pasco EcoFest is the biggest event they have ever helmed. EcoFest this year takes place in parks in West Pasco and locations in and around New Port Richey. It is manned mostly by volunteers organizing individual activities under the Pasco EcoFest banner. Oscar-Winning Film Leads Return of Free Movies in Sims Park

The free movie series returns next week with "Hugo."

Free movie showings are returning to New Port Richey next week. The New Port Richey Cultural Affairs Committee is resuming its Spring/Fall Free For All movie series at the band shell in Sims Park in downtown New Port Richey. The series features family friendly movies and other amusements for the kids. “It’s an opportunity for families to get out relax a little bit, enjoy their friends their family and a little bit of culture, and I think it adds to the sense of community in New Port Richey,” said Lia Gallegos, vice chair of the committee. Art Guild Showcases Local Creativity

West Pasco Art Guild members are displaying their creations in their downtown headquarters.

In its building at 6206 Jefferson St. in downtown New Port Richey, the West Pasco Art Guild offers artists the chance to exhibit their creations for guests to admire. Right now, the art on display in the building gallery includes paintings of tropical birds, still life watercolors, scenes from the ocean, ceramic pieces and more. These pieces are all part of the Art Guild’s newest exhibit Summer and the Living is Easy. The exhibit was featured in a reception Saturday, Sept. 8, and it will be on display through the first week of October. The guild holds the exhibit every summer so that artists can have a space to display and prospective buyers can take a look at art for sale. Enjoy Drawings, Firecracker Art at First Friday

The Progress Energy Art Gallery's monthly serres features the work of Otok Ben-Hvar and other local artists.

The Progress Energy Art Gallery in downtown New Port Richey is featuring two new exhibits during its First Friday reception this week. On the first Friday of every month, the Progress Energy Art Gallery hosts a  reception at which guests can meet artists, see their creations and enjoy wine and refreshments. The monthly reception is called First Friday. September’s First Friday event features an exhibit of the art of Otok Ben-Hvar, a creator whose fascinating life has taken him to unexpected places, including Croatia. Ben-Hvar creates most of his artwork with firecrackers. Chasco Fiesta Rolls On Despite Setbacks

Chasco Fiesta had to cut days and add responsibilities this year.

Kristen King had her work cut out for her this past year. It’s her first year as executive director of Chasco Fiesta, the long-running, multi-day festival that has become tradition in downtown New Port Richey. In addition to being a community event, Chasco bills itself as providing a way for nonprofits to raise funds and attention for themselves. Months after the previous Fiesta ended, city officials raised the possibility of cutting subsidies of city services to special events.
