Community Gardening Ordinance Gets Initial Thumbs Up
The ordinance would change the city code to allow community gardens on private property.
The New Port Richey City Council gave preliminary approval Tuesday to an ordinance that amends the city’s land development code to allow folks to plant community gardens on private property in any of the city’s zoning districts. Council members voted unanimously to approve the first draft of the ordinance. This was the first of two votes needed to pass the ordinance. The ordinance stems from a request from the city’s Environmental Sustainability Committee, a citizen advisory group. The group has been requesting such an ordinance for some time.
