Authorities: Driver Plows Into Accident Scene

Christopher William Gamel of New Port Richey was arrested and charged with careless driving and multiple counts of DUI personal injury and property damage.

A driver plowed into a New Port Richey accident scene, striking three vehicles and injuring a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, authorities say. Christopher William Gamel, 42, of Chipmunk Drive in New Port Richey, was arrested and charged with careless driving and multiple counts of DUI personal injury and property damage, according to FHP. The incident occurred late Friday, April 12 on State Road 54, west of Little Road. Troopers say Gamel was traveling westbound around 11:40 p.m. when he came upon the investigation scene and failed to stop for the emergency vehicles, which had their emergency lights activated. New Port Richey Man’s Death in Lutz Crash Under Investigation

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the March crash that left Lance Rockwell Agin dead and five people injured.

Answers in the death of Lance Rockwell Agin, 52, won’t come fast, but they will come, Florida Highway Patrol officials assured April 2. That agency is continuing its investigation into the fatal March 22 crash in Lutz that left Agin dead and five others injured, said Sgt. Steve Gaskins, spokesman for the patrol. The crash occurred as Ryan and Shantel Moore and three children of Land O' Lakes were driving southbound on U.S. 41 in Lutz approaching Knaus Lane at about 4:30 p.m. on March 22. Their Chevrolet pickup traveled over the raised concrete median and entered into the northbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. New Port Richey Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

The accident happened Saturday, March 23 on La Madera Boulevard.

A motorcycle crash on La Madera Boulevard, south of James Joseph Way, resulted in the death of a 27-year-old New Port Richey man. Dakota Nicholas Williams was headed north on La Madera just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23 when he lost control of his 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6, a Florida Highway Patrol media release said. Williams’ motorcycle overturned and he was thrown from the bike. Williams died at the scene.

New Port Richey Man Dies in U.S. 41 Crash

The three-car accident on U.S. 41 in Lutz happened at about 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Lance Rockwell Agin, 52, of New Port Richey was killed Friday, March 22 following a three-vehicle accident on U.S. 41 in Lutz. Two people were seriously injured in the crash and three children, ages 4 to 7, also received minior injuries. Ryan and Shantel Moore and three children of Land O' Lakes were driving southbound on U.S. 41 in Lutz approaching Knaus Lane at about 4:30 p.m. on March 22 when their Chevrolet pickup traveled over the raised concrete median and entered into the northbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Pedestrian Dies Following Crash in Holiday

An 89-year-old Holiday man died Feb. 23 after being struck by a car on Perrine Ranch Road.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left one man dead Feb. 23. Enrique Rodriguez Ortiz, 89, of Holiday was attempting to walk northbound across Perrine Ranch Road, just east of Olde Farm Road, around 6:50 p.m. last night, Feb. 23, when the accident occurred, a highway patrol media release said. Ortiz, the release said, crossed into the path of a 2002 Saturn driven by Gladys Devos, 89, also of Holiday, and was struck by the car. Ortiz died at the scene, the release said. Devos was uninjured. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that fatal crashes involving impaired drivers tend to increase during the holidays. That’s why the Florida Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies plan to step up enforcement through New Year’s Day. “Last year more than 1,100 people lost their lives in crashes where alcohol or drugs were involved or suspected, and thousands more were injured,” said Julie L. Traffic Crashes Up Slightly in Pasco

While statewide numbers are down, Pasco County saw a small increase in collisions in 2011, according to a new state report. We want to hear from you in West Pasco on what roads worry you the most.

The number of traffic crashes in Pasco County rose from 5,576 in 2010 to 5,610 in 2011. A total of three teen drivers or their passengers, ages 15 to 19, were killed in motor vehicle accidents in Pasco County in 2011. Three bicyclists were killed while trying to navigate Pasco roadways. These are just a few of the numbers released in the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles 2011 Florida Crash Statistics Report. The report was just released by the state and includes a variety of information related to roadway safety throughout the state and in Pasco County. While Hillsborough did see a rise in its crash numbers, the state witnessed a drop in fatalities, the report says. In fact, the drop between 2010 and 2011 in fatalities …

Highway Patrol Out in Force Through Saturday

The following is a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol: The Thanksgiving holiday is a peak travel period for families coming together, but far too often the holiday celebration turns to tragedy because of failure to drive carefully and buckle up.  The Florida Highway Patrol will increase its presence Nov. 22 - 25 on Florida’s high-volume roadways during the four-day period. Auxiliary and reserve troopers will volunteer to augment the Patrol. Troopers will focus their enforcement efforts on impaired driving, speeding, following too closely and other aggressive driving behaviors. Holiday Man Dies in Overnight Crash

The accident took place on Grand Boulevard, near the intersection with Sunray Drive.

A 20-year-old Holiday man is dead and another man is injured following an evening crash on Grand Boulevard. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Angus Stubbs, 25, of Hazel Green, Ala., was driving south on Grand Boulevard in a 1997 Ford F250 as Bill J. Castro Segura of Holiday was traveling north on Grand, near the intersection with Sunray Drive in Holiday. Stubbs’ vehicle began to “swerve towards the west shoulder for unknown reasons,” a highway patrol media release said. At that point, Stubbs over-corrected back into the roadway, causing his truck to travel over the painted median and into oncoming traffic. 2 New Port Richey Residents Injured in State Road 52 Crash

The accident took place west of Ehren Cutoff in Land O’ Lakes.

Two New Port Richey residents are in serious condition following a three-car crash on State Road 52 this afternoon. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash took place around 4:30 p.m. today, April 17, on State Road 52, just west of Ehren Cutoff Road. Sammie Re Shard Person, 19, of Spring Hill was traveling east on State Road 52 as James Michael Reich, 59, of New Port Richey was heading west. A car driven by Christi Lynn Bartke, 47, of New Port Richey was also headed westbound at the time. Person’s car left its lane and traveled into the path of Reich’s car, a highway patrol report said.
