ReplyThey should rehire every person they let go last year due to the "dire" financial situation the city was supposedly facing. I'll never forget the young woman in Billings & Collections pleading for council to reconsider letting her go. It was terrible. And how it is, really, to have one year when the sky is falling to "oh look, we found money!" Citizens don't like being jerked around with all the drama.

On the Blog Post To Tallahassee and Back: To Expand or Not to Expand? That is the Medicaid Question!

ReplyBravo to State Rep. Mike Fasano for standing up for the people of this state, so many of whom desperately need some form of health care insurance. While on the surface accepting Medicare expansion can appear risky to Florida's future coffers, this is no time to quibble and action must be taken now. Providing better care earlier can prevent greater future expense, and a healthier electorate is more productive. In the long run, this is the right thing to do.
Thank you Greg, as always, for your informative blog!

ReplyI am SO happy to hear that! When I ran for council several years ago, I thought the forums were great for helping the candidates define their message and priorities while also giving the voters a chance to ask specific questions. Great idea PATCH, I'll be there!

On the Blog Post To Tallahassee and Back: Happy Birthday, Richard Nixon!

ReplyIt took many years before I recognized what Richard Nixon did for the US by opening up China. He may have been one of the greatest presidents we've had for his international relations. I was a bit older during Watergate, Greg, but like you I remember it as a poingnant moment in our country's history. Also as time went by and I matured I began to understand Richard Nixon better as the complex and intelligent human being he was. His daughters loved him and that meant something to me.
Thanks for you nice article about him. Sorry to hear about your recent illness, though, and am hoping you are feeling much better now.
