Though, I have become somewhat endeared to the idea of making the brush collection a fee for service rather than a part of the forced millage tax.

I believe we are on the same page Jon. I was only making the point that this stuff is happening at the current millage rate so the logic of spending = good quality of life doesn't hold much water.

ReplySo, if we cut spending by 4% we will have drug dealers and prostitutes running all over the streets even more than they are now? Oh and the roads will collapse, people will stop mowing their lawns and businesses will move to other cities?

ReplyWhy is the conversation always about how we can raise revenue? (property values) Why don't we ever talk about how to cut spending?

ReplyI hope that this pans out. I am somewhat concerned that dispatchers who currently work in New Port Richey will now be required to drive to Dade City or Zephyrhills for their job.

ReplyHow could this possibly be a good thing? This whole system of red light cameras circumvents due process. It's very disheartening when you have a conversation with someone in government about this issue and their first response is "What about the revenue?"
What about due process? What about good old fashioned police. This is just another money making crackpot presented to us by our Legislature and enforced by our City Government.

ReplyYou are correct. We shouldn't let it happen again. But those who wrap themselves in red tape won't be able to do anything.

Just for the record, I'm not sure how suggesting cutting spending equates to gutting emergency services?
Are we saying that anything less than 9.5/mil will result in dozens of police officers being laid off? I'm only asking that we be intellectually honest and talk about cutting the budget even half as much as we talk about increasing revenue. Or at least talk about some other type of remedies other than increasing revenue.
