ReplyI was spanked as a child, at home.
I cannot tell you even one thing I learned from it.I was paddled in junior high
more times than I can tell you.
(We called it getting whacks)
It never altered my actions, at all.
In fact, I opted for the quickly administered whacks,
rather than inconvenient after school suspensions.
If anything, I suspect
I gave myself the impression I was tougher for each whack.I think paddling is waste of time, for most offenders.
I think it is dangerous, for some of them
and I suspect it would breed fear into a small demographic of kids
who never would have been in trouble anyway.I don't recall whether any of the kids I knew in school
ever "learned their lesson" when whacked by administrators. -

ReplyI would certainly spend more time
listening to local live music
if there were places the air were clean.I rarely head to the bars
due to all of the smoke. -

ReplyTasty Tuesdays!
YAY
It was so convenient for me, last week,
to grab one of Jim Koveleski's delicious cookies
and some spring mix for salad
while I was (already) at the library.
What a terrific idea! -

ReplyIf I chose to live on a dark alley
and felt insecure in said darkness
I would install my own lights.
I feel no sense of civic necessity to make me feel comfortable.
That said, I like the dark
and light polution was something for me to get over
when I moved back home, here.
Locking doors is a good idea, for certain,
though there's also something to be said
for creating interactions in the neighborhood which are friendly.
If there's an odd vehicle in my elderly neighbor's driveway,
I call them to be sure all is well.
When my nneighbor's dog is barking out of character,
I check on them.
A community looks out for one another
and wisely secures itself.
Streetlights cannot report crime
but friendly neighbors can write down license plate numbers
snap photos and minimally, take notice,
regardless of the LEO's immediate priorities. -
