Durney Key Sunset Paddle

Bring your kayak, canoe or paddle board for a sunset paddle to beautiful Durney
Key - a spoil island that lies about a mile off the coast in the Gulf of Mexico.
We will be launching at 6:00 pm from the Salt Springs Alliance headquarters at
the north end of Old Post Road in Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park. The
total distance for this trip is about 2 miles each direction - mostly in open Gulf waters. If the weather is calm, it should be an easy trip - but since part of our journey will be under a moon-lit night sky, it is only recommended for
intermediate to advanced paddlers.

Upon arriving at the beach of Durney Key about an hour before sunset, we will
disembark to socialize, explore the island, and have some snacks. Feel free to bring whatever goodies and drinks you would like - and maybe something to share.

After watching an unobstructed view of what is usually a beautiful sunset, we will begin our trip back to our launch point at the park. We will have an almost full rising moon to guide us home through the waters of Salt Spring Run.

All paddlers must bring their own
watercraft. Each person is required to
have a USCG approved personal floatation device. And you must have a whistle and light on
each boat. The whistle and light are particularly important since a portion
of this trip will be after dark. A flashlight, glow stick or LED lantern are
fine. The light will help us keep track of our paddlers and will indicate your position to passing motorboats. Participants must also
sign a liability waiver before launching.

Advance reservations should be made for this trip by clicking HERE. There is a $5.00 launch fee
which may be paid in advance when you make your reservation - or you may pay
cash the day of the event. Salt Springs Alliance members are free.
